Breast Augmentation: Enhance your Appeal Naturally

Breast augmentation refers to the range of cosmetic surgical procedures used to enhance the size and shape of the breast with the use of specially-designed implants. Modern plastic surgery offers women a range of sophisticated techniques to create their desired bust contour while ensuring speedy recovery times.

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic surgical techniques, and as many as 300,000 women opt for the procedure annually. With rapid advancement in the field of plastic surgery, women can now choose from range of implant options to ensure the desired bust enhancement with minimal scarring and long lasting results.

Surgical Techniques

The most commonly employed surgical procedure involves placing the implant under the breast fold. Termed the Inframammary technique, this approach is preferable primarily because scarring is minimized. In addition there is lesser impact on the glandular tissue which is important if the patient intends to breastfeed in the future because milk production is likely to be unaffected. The periareolar technique, on the other hand can significantly affect milk secretion since the implant location results in significant changes to the ducts and the glands. Women looking for minimal scarring can opt for transaxillary incisions where the implants are inserted via a slit in the armpit region making scars nearly invisible even when the arms are raised. Regardless of the type of incision made, it is a good idea to opt for implant placement below the muscle layer. Implants inserted over the muscle exert considerable pressure which affects surrounding tissues and nerves too.

Post-Surgical Recovery

Patients need to be prepared for the after effects of a semi-invasive surgery as also have realistic expectations in terms of results. Recovery from breast augmentation surgery is to a large extent dependent on the post-operative care. In general, the type of surgery and the incision location have a direct impact on the primary recuperation times. In addition the precautions taken prior to surgery can expedite the recovery process.

Immediately after the procedure, a level of swelling and bruising are to be expected, and some women also report that the skin feels ‘stretched’ and tight. It is recommended that patients take at least 48 hours of complete bed rest post surgery to help manage the initial soreness. Compressive bandages and cold compressed may be applied to help with the swelling, and a surgical bra or ace wrap may also be used for added support and comfort. In addition, any fluid build-up is drained during post-operative care and most patients do not need any draining after the first couple of days.

While most of the pain and swelling subsides during this time, the breasts are likely to be swollen for sometime even after the sutures are removed although this is not cause for concern. Perhaps the most significant secondary effect of surgery is the scarring which can take much longer to fade completely. Scars and any discoloration is usually minimal when the procedure is performed by a skilled surgeon. Using skin creams can hasten fading, and staying away from the dun helps since tanning can darken scars and make them more visible.

Successful breast augmentation surgery offers women the desired results in terms of enhancing their breast contour and size while still keeping scarring minimal. With advanced techniques on hand, modern plastic surgeons are equipped with the skills and technology to make the surgery itself straightforward thus avoiding complications and ensuring faster recovery times.
