Home Remedies For Ear Wax - Natural Remedy

Ear wax is secreted by the wax glands situated in the external ear canal. Its primary duty is to protect the ear from dust, water, bacteria, fungi, and other foreign elements.

Ear wax, medically known as cerumen, is secreted by the wax glands situated in the external ear canal. Its primary duty is to protect the ear from dust, water, small insects bacteria, fungi, and other foreign elements. However, accumulation of too much wax in the ears can lead to earwax impaction, a condition that can produce symptoms like brief loss of hearing, a sensation of fullness in the ear, pain, and inner ear pressure and the consequent tinnitus or a ringing sound in the ear. Moreover, excessive wax in the ear may facilitate infection by entrapping bacteria in the ear.

You should not use candles, cotton swabs, Q-tip, or any other pointed objects to clean your ears in order to avoid damage to eardrum. There are a few safe home remedies for earwax removal and you can use any one of these methods to get rid of earwax. Apply a few drops of baby oil into your ear. Wait for sometime and then tilt your head or lie down to allow the oil to come out of the ear. Spray water into the ear with a rubber bulb syringe to displace and remove earwax. You can also use olive oil instead of baby oil.

Hydrogen peroxide is a good home remedy for earwax removal. Take a capful of hydrogen peroxide and lie down on one side with the ear to be cleaned facing upward. Put hydrogen peroxide into the ear. Do not get alarmed if you feel little discomfort, itch, and popping sounds. Allow the hydrogen peroxide to remain in your ear for at least 15 minutes. Then sit up and tilt the head to drain the hydrogen peroxide from the ear. Use a bulb syringe to irrigate your ear with warm water. Remember that you should not use this method if you are prone to infections or have ruptured eardrum, pain or fluid drainage from the ears.

Paraffin oil can also be used to soften and remove wax from the ear. It is regarded as one of the safest home remedies for earwax removal. Slightly warm some tablespoons of paraffin oil and apply it into the ear using a bulb syringe, Keep the oil in the ear for at least five minutes and then get it oil out of the ear by turning your head sideward. You can also use any other mineral oil in the same way to soften the earwax. After a couple of days, irrigate your ear to remove the wax. Flush some warm water into your ear with a bulb syringe. Straighten your ear canal by pulling the external ear up and back. Turn your head to one side to allow water to come out.

Alcohol is one of the extensively used home remedies for earwax removal. Mix a half cup of vinegar with a half cup of rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol. Lie on your side with the ear to be treated facing up. Using a syringe, pour this solution into the ear. After five minutes, irrigate the ear with warm water.
