Breast Augmentation: How To Prepare For Surgery

As far as elective surgeries go, breast augmentation is one of the most

popular for women in the United States. As with any surgery, there are

you go ahead.

As far as elective surgeries go, breast augmentation is one of the most

popular for women in the United States. For the most part, these

surgeries are done for completely cosmetic reasons, though there are

sometimes extenuating circumstances such as gender reassignment and

reconstruction following a mastectomy. Some people hear the word

“elective” and they automatically think that a procedure is not serious.

This should not be your mindset going in to such a procedure. As with

any surgery, there are risks and potential complications. You should be

fully prepared before you go ahead.

The first thing you must do is determine how you will pay for your

breast augmentation. Being an elective cosmetic surgery, there are few

forms of insurance that will pay for the procedure. Seeing as how no one

should determine their doctor based on cost—price shopping may work

well for clothing and cars, but it shouldn’t be used for major

surgery—you need to have a way to pay for the procedure. Some doctors

offer a financing plan you can take advantage of if you don’t have all

the money up front. You may also wish to go into your bank and ask for a

personal loan. If your credit is good, you may not even have to give a

reason for wanting the money.

When you have your first consultation and examination by the doctor, be

forthright and honest about anything in your medical history. This

includes even things that don’t seem relevant, as they may be. If you

have any questions, make sure and ask them before it’s too late. You

should feel as comfortable as possible heading into the surgery. If

anything feels off or if you have hesitations, think very carefully

about going through with the procedure. Many women are perfectly happy

after getting breast augmentation, but some women have regrets. Be as

sure as possible before going through with it.

Your doctor will give you instructions to follow both before and after

the surgery. Make sure you follow these instructions to the letter to

ensure the best results. Those instructions are given for a reason. If

you are told not to smoke in the days heading up to your procedure,

follow this advice carefully. The same goes for any instructions you

receive following the procedure. This advice will help you recover from

the operation as quickly as possible. Everyone wants to get back to

their normal routine, but jumping the gun can cause problems and set you

back even further.
